Money-Smart Mondaywith John Lanza Hello, friends, I hope you had a nice weekend and you enjoy these Monday morsels of money-smart goodness. Money as gasolineKevin Kelly is the author of Excellent Advice for Living, the co-founder of WIRED and an intellectual hero of mine. I was fortunate to have Kevin join me for a conversation on The Art of Allowance Podcast last year, and he shared an idea that stuck with me. We should think of money as gasoline, fuel we can douse on our kids’ interests to help them grow. You can watch the video and read my post here. Kevin’s insight underscores a theme we’ve discussed on many Mondays: Money is a means, not an end—a tool to help our kids create fulfilling lives. Banking doesn’t have to be boringMost financial institutions struggle to engage young members, but Community Choice Credit Union decided to change that narrative by partnering with us. They ran with the program, even wrapping a car with Joe the Monkey and his Money Mammals friends. The resulting numbers were impressive! Community Choice enjoyed a 17% increase in youth savings accounts, a 57% surge in kids club web traffic and over 20 new sign-ups per event. Their efforts also earned them the title of “Best Family Bank” by Des Moines Parent followers. You can read more about their success on their partner story page. Let me know if you want to bring The Money Mammals to your local credit union.
